Baldwin was born in Chicago, Illinois. He studied at New Trier Township High School East at Winnetka, Illinois, and once worked as a truck driver.
Career

Appearing in dozens of films since 1980, Baldwin rose to prominence as the troubled outcast, Ricky Linderman, in My Bodyguard (1980), and moved on to bigger roles in D.C. Cab (1983), Full Metal Jacket (1987), and Independence Day (1996).
Baldwin won a SyFy Genre Award in 2006 for Best Supporting Actor/Television for his role as Jayne Cobb in Firefly.
Baldwin was cast as the voice of Superman in the first DC Universe animated movie, Superman: Doomsday, based on DC Comics' The Death of Superman. Baldwin has also performed a voice for the Xbox 360 game Halo 3. Currently, he is playing a very similar role in Chuck to what he played in Firefly, that of a strong, literal-minded muscle man with a twitchy trigger finger and a weakness for femme fatale.

- Adam is one of two from the Chuck cast to have voiced in the video game, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, the other being Tony Todd.
- He is also one of two from the show's cast to voice in the video game Mass Effect 2, the other being none other than Yvonne Strahovski.
